Baseball:
Northview opened defense of its Valle Vista League title with a 5-2 victory over their visitors from Covina.
The Vikings out-hit the Colts, 9-2.
Fernie Casas went the distance, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits.
Casas did not issue a walk and struck out six.
Evan Chavez had an RBI single in the top of the first inning, and he hit a solo home run in the fourth.
Ethan Echeverria reached base on an error in the first, and he scored on the Chavez single.
Derek Johnson went all six for CHS, and he was charged with five runs (four earned) on nine hits.
Johnson didn’t issue a walk and registered five strikeouts.
Michael Mendoza hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
Ezekiel Martinez singled, doubled and scored.
Jayden Chagollan doubled and scored.
Bobby Granados singled, doubled in a run and scored.
Isaiah Benavidez went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Jake Aguilar had two singles in three at-bats.
Up next: The Vikings travel to CHS on Friday at 3:30.
