Softball:

It took 30 days and 14 opponents before Glendora dropped its first game of the 2026 season.

And it was their arch nemesis and the three-time defending Palomares League champions from Ayala who handed the Tartans a 5-4 setback.

The Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning and they out-hit their hosts, 14-6.

Gianna Messick got the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits over two innings.

Emma Garcia provided five scoreless innings in relief and scattered seven hits.

Garcia issued one walk and registered three strikeouts.

Lilianna Acosta, who also earned the win in the circle, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs.

Serenity DeAvilla singled twice, doubled, scored and drove in one run.

Madison Caganap singled twice and scored.

Mariah Holguin went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Jayden Tamura walked, doubled and scored.

Jayda Marquez singled and scored.

Jasmine Peralez had an RBI single in the second inning to give Ayala a 2-0 lead.

Viviana Jilek singled in the win.

Acosta went all seven for the Bulldogs, and she was charged with four runs on six hits.

Acosta gave one free pass and struck out seven Glendora batters.

Lauren Curiel hit a solo home run in the fourth to get GHS on the board.

Morgan Gonzalez doubled in a run and scored.

Siena Bobadilla’s two-run double in the fifth pulled the Tartans to within 5-4 of the Bulldogs.

Kaylie Winovitch singled and scored.

Kennedy Bowers collected a pair of singles in three at-bats.

Glendora had a runner on first in the sixth with two outs.

And on Bowers’ second hit of the game, the GHS runner on first was thrown out at third to end the threat.

Acosta retired the side in the seventh for AHS.

Up next: The Tartans travel to Diamond Bar on Friday at 3:30.
