Baseball:
Etiwanda has played a murderer’s row schedule to begin the 2026 season.
It’s all part of Don Furnald’s plan of having his Eagles ready for the rigors of the upcoming Baseline League grind.
EHS entered Thursday’s contest with a 4-6 record, and they traveled to Orange County to battle the 20th ranked program in the state by MaxPreps.
Four Etiwanda pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory at Foothill.
The win snapped the Knights five-game winning streak.
Noah Frias went four scoreless innings and allowed just one hit to earn the win.
Frias issued one walk and registered nine strikeouts.
CJ Monzon (2/3 IP), Dylan Villegas (1 1/3) and AJ Salazar (1) combined to get the final nine outs without any damage.
Salazar earned the save and got two of his three outs via strikeout.
The Eagles staff combined to walk three and struck out 11 Foothill batters.
Patrick Petrossi, Aidan Gogley and Brayden Bianchi had one single apiece of account for the Knights offense.
Caden Lauridsen got the loss in spite of going six innings and allowing a pair of unearned runs on six hits.
Lauridsen didn’t give a free pass and fanned a trio of Eagles.
Of his 78 pitches, Lauridsen threw 57 strikes.
In the top of the fourth inning and with one out, Jaxson Milius reached on an error, and James Milam singled.
Milius and Milam advanced to second and third on a passed ball.
After a strikeout, Milius scored on a wild pitch.
And Nathan Perez had a clutch two-out single to plate Milam, and the Eagles enjoyed a 2-0 lead.
Milam finished 2-for-3 with the run scored.
Adam Ornelas, LJ Roellig and Derick Kim had one single apiece in the win.
Up next: The Eagles host Los Osos on Monday in the first game of a Baseline League series with the Grizzlies.
Quotable:
Etiwanda coach, Don Furnald: “Noah pitched a great game. It was a playoff environment today in March. Our belief is that our tough nonleague schedule will prepare us for the difficult Baseline League.”
