Baseball:
Rio Hondo Prep opened Prep League play with a 4-2 victory over their visitors from Pasadena Poly.
The Kares led 4-0 before the Panthers scored once in the fifth and seventh innings.
Poly actually had the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh, and on a base hit a runner was tossed out at the plate.
Julian Rodriguez earned the win after going four scoreless innings and allowing six hits.
Rodriguez walked out and fanned one batter.
Benny Tardino went two innings, and he was charged with an unearned run on two hits and a pair of walks.
Abhi Patel allowed one seventh-inning run on four hits.
Alejandro Kohn Rabassa went 4-for-4 and scored.
Elijah Ip had an RBI single.
Alex Chui singled three times in the loss.
Oliver Marks went 2-for-4.
Mark Hiddleson singled and scored.
Elijah Ip got the loss.
Ip surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits over four innings.
Ip issued three walks and registered six strikeouts.
Brayden Vinton singled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Nathan Harwood drew a bases loaded walk to give RHP a 3-0 lead.
Landon Scott singled in a run in the third to extend the advantage to 4-0.
Easton Jara walked, singled twice and scored.
Yanick Diaz and Isaac Guzman singled and scored one run apiece.
Jacob Gomez and Calogero Chico had one single apiece in the win.
