Rio Hondo Prep opened Prep League play with a 4-2 victory over their visitors from Pasadena Poly.
The Kares led 4-0 before the Panthers scored once in the fifth and seventh innings.
Poly actually had the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh, and on a base hit a runner was tossed out at the plate.
Julian Rodriguez earned the win after going four scoreless innings and allowing six hits.
Rodriguez walked out and fanned one batter.
Benny Tardino went two innings, and he was charged with an unearned run on two hits and a pair of walks.
Abhi Patel allowed one seventh-inning run on four hits.
Alejandro Kohn Rabassa went 4-for-4 and scored.
