Baseball:
West Covina got off to a terrible start to the 2026 season.
They dropped consecutive games to South Hills, La Salle, Montebello, Damien and Walnut by a combined margin of 36-14.
However, the Bulldogs have won two of their last three games.
Last week, WCHS secured a 13-7 victory over La Canada.
And yesterday, they hammered visiting Rosemead, 15-5, in six innings.
All nine West Covina starters had at least one hit, and five had two or more.
Lucas Mojica went 3 1/3 innings for the Panthers, and he was charged with three runs on six hits.
Mojica didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.
The Bulldogs got to Sebastian Genie and Anthony Ruiz for 12 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits and four walks over two innings.
West Covina pounded out 20 hits, as compared to six for Rosemead.
Andrew Maldonado walked, doubled twice, scored a pair of runs and drove in one.
Griffey Moncada went 4-for-5 with two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Gabriel Diaz totaled three singles, a double, two runs and one RBI.
Ethan Okazaki went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and one RBI.
Joaquin Diaz walked, singled, drove in one and scored three times.
Joseph Castillo went 3-for-4 with one run and three RBIs.
Gabriel Lara and Rob Melendez walked, singled, scored and drove in one run apiece.
Danny Pineda singled and scored.
Up next: The Bulldogs will host Kaiser on Saturday morning at 10.
