College Basketball:
Citrus earned what seems to be their annual trip to the 3C2A State Championships.
To secure that spot, the Owls needed a win on Saturday evening.
And they got it.
Citrus outlasted Mt. SAC, 91-80, thanks to a 55-43 run in the second half.
The Owls extended their current win streak to 24 games.
Both programs shot 44-percent from the field.
Citrus was 3-of-23 from beyond the 3-point arc, and they converted 24-of-34 attempts from the free-throw line.
In comparison, the Mounties went 5-of-17 on 3-pointers, and 19-of-31 from the charity stripe.
Amiri Meadows led the Owls with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
Meadows totaled four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Leo Ricketts added 22 points, including a pair of 3’s.
Rockwell Reynolds contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Mt. SAC’s Dayvon Gates scored a game-high 30 points on 13-of-26 shooting.
Gates had five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Osami Maciel came off the Mounties bench and produced 17 points.
Ryan Wheeler chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Up next: Citrus will open the state playoffs next weekend against West Valley.
The Vikings (24-6) secured their spot with a comfortable 75-58 victory over Yuba on Saturday.
The single-elimination tournament runs Friday through Sunday.
