Mt. SAC Secures an 8-5 Victory at El Camino to Catch Warriors atop SCC Standings; Ryan Castro Singles, Doubles & Homers in Win

College Baseball:

What a difference 72 hours can make.

On Saturday, Mt. SAC dropped a 7-3 home game to last place Rio Hondo College.

It’s the Roadrunners lone SCC win in seven tries, and it was the Mounties first conference loss.

Fast forward to Tuesday, and MSAC handed El Camino its first conference loss, 8-5, and the Mounties and Roadrunners now share the SCC’s penthouse.

Tomas Bilvado won his third consecutive start, and he improved his college record to 4-2.

Bilvado went five innings, and he was charged with four runs on six hits.

He issued one walk and registered six strikeouts.

Noah Tanphanich provided three innings of relief, and he surrendered one run on one hit.

Tanphanich walked two and struck out a pair of ECC batters.

Juan Verduzco retired the side in the ninth, including one strikeout to earn the save.

Dylan Mares had a two-run double.

Nathan Rivera walked and hit a solo home run.

Slater Nunez singled, scored twice and drove in one run.

Caden Lewis went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kai Nagashima and Nolan Fox singled and scored one run apiece.

The Mounties got six runs on seven hits off starter Cameron O’Neil over five innings.

O’Neil issued four walks and struck out seven.

Henry Sorman was charged with two runs on five hits over two innings of work.

With the game tied at 1-1, Mt. SAC scored five times in the top of the fifth, and they got two more in the seventh inning.

Ryan Castro went 3-for-5 with two runs, and that included a solo home run in the top of the first and an RBI double in the fifth.

Hudson Karczynski had a big afternoon.

He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, one run and four RBIs.

Tyler Primanto walked, singled and scored.

Nick Mejia drew a pair of walks, singled twice and scored two runs.

Andrew Alva singled and scored.

Mario Cuadros went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Jackson Giacone walked and scored.

Chip Mertz singled, and Froilan Serna drove in a run on a sac fly.

Up next: The Mounties will host the Warriors on Thursday at 2.
