Wrestling:
I wanted to send out the best wishes possible for all 28 competitors from 210 Prep Sports programs that qualified for the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.
The three-day event begins on Thursday morning inside the Dignity Health Arena.
I reached out to every program, so if you don’t see a photo of one of the wrestlers on the list, it means the program didn’t get one to me.
I will not be in attendance for the first time in nearly a decade, but I have a photographer there, I’ll get info online and through coaches, and I’ll have nightly stories.
Of the 28 who qualified, 18 are girls.
San Dimas’ Michael Baeza (215 pounds) and Aubreyelle Baeza (190) make up the only brother-sister combo.
Michael was a CIF-SS Masters champ, and Aubreyelle placed second.
Also on the girls’ side, Northview’s Mia Hooper (125) and Sumaya Lazaro (140) and West Covina’s Julie Cimarusti (140) headed to Bakersfield with CIF-SS Masters titles last week at Sonora High School in La Habra.
Northview has an area best 10 qualifiers, including seven girls.
Etiwanda has four female athletes, and heavyweight Carlos Sutton is the lone Eagles male.
Upland has three girls.
