Boys Hoops:
You couldn’t blame Ayala if they were a little frustrated as they began the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs on Wednesday evening.
The Bulldogs earned a share of the Palomares League title with Bonita.
However, AHS was the only league program forced to travel in first-round play.
Instead of whining, though, Ayala would make the 40-mile drive to Crescenta Valley, and they headed back to Chino Hills with a 59-54 victory over the Falcons in overtime.
Ayala coach Sameer Bhatt sent the following game notes:
“We had two huge back-to-back charges that shifted momentum for us by Milo Tun and Braylen Pangan in the third quarter.
Zach Canellopolous hit a huge 3 with 30 or so seconds in regulation to tie the game, helping send it to OT.
Zach, Joshua Townsell and Brenden White had huge offensive rebounds down the stretch in the fourth with put backs to help us keep the game close
And Paul Christian iced the game with big free throws in OT.”
Brenden White scored a game-high 21 points.

Joshua Townsell ran the offense, and he contributed 12 big points.
Canellopoulos contributed nine points, including a pair of 3’s.
Paul Christian finished with eight points in the win.
Dylan Shaghoian and Jaxon Boghossian led the Falcons with 15 points apiece.
Arman Bedrosian contributed 10 points and Garen Samuelian had nine.
Up next: The Bulldogs will host Alta Loma on Friday at 7.
The Lions (21-6) cruised to a 51-34 victory over their visitors from Pacifica Christian.

Quotable:
Ayala coach, Sameer Bhatt: “First and foremost, I’m incredibly proud of our young men. They played an incredible team game. We struggled in the first half just finding somebody with rhythm, as we definitely had some playoff jitters. Coming out of half, they just made team play after team play, and that was the difference. Much credit to Crescenta Valley for playing such a tough spirited game. Coach Boykins had his team prepared and they played with great effort. With the playoffs, you can’t stay too happy for too long. We’ve got to get ready for another tough matchup on Friday, but I wouldn’t want to go to battle with any other group other than the one we have.”
