Giacone, Regan, Mertz, Mejia & Castro Tally at Least Two Hits Apiece in Mt. SAC’s 9-8 Walk-Off Victory Over Cypress

College Baseball:

Mt. SAC put together a late-game rally to secure a 9-8 victory over their visitors from Cypress.

The Mounties scored one run in both the seventh and eighth innings, and they got two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off victory.

Rohan Ramos went the first 4 2/3 innings for the Chargers, and he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits.

Ramos walked two and struck out a pair of Mounties.

Cole Ferreira was charged with the loss after surrendering one run on two hits and a walk over 1/3 of an inning.

Jackson Giacone went 3-for-4, including an RBI ground out, an RBI single and his RBI double in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 8-8.

Giacone also scored one run.

Rocco Regan went 2-for-4, and he scored a pair of runs, including the game winner on Chip Mertz’s single.

Mertz finished with a pair of singles, RBIs and one run.

Nick Mejia singled, scored and had an RBI triple.

Andrew Alva had an RBI ground out, and RBI single and scored.

Mario Cuadros walked and scored from the leadoff spot.

Ryan Castro had a pair of singles and scored two runs.

Ty Tancredi singled in a run in the fourth to give Mt. SAC a 3-2 lead.

Hudson Castillo went the first five innings for the Mounties, and he was charged with four runs on 10 hits.

Castillo issued a pair of walks and registered four strikeouts.

Brenden Menchaca was credited with the win after going two innings and allowing an unearned run on one hit.

Menchaca walked one and fanned a Cypress batter.

Ty Peters walked, tripled and hit a two-run HR.

Travis Curry walked, doubled, tripled and scored a pair of runs.

Ben Keisler had an RBI single, two-run homer, and he scored twice.

Justin Tillar went 1-for-4 with a walk, single, run and one RBI.

Tyler Smith walked and had an RBI single in the fourth.

Wyatt Joyce singled twice, doubled and scored.

Tony Martinez tallied two singles in four at-bats.

Trent Johnson doubled and scored.

Up next: The Mounties travel to Fullerton on Saturday at noon.
