Boys Hoops:
With just two to play, Ayala is the only Palomares League program that controls its own destiny.
The Bulldogs left Diamond Bar on Wednesday night with a 71-63 victory.
And thanks to Bonita’s 60-55 victory at Walnut, AHS is one-game up on the Bearcats and Mustangs for the league championship.
Ayala hosts last-place Claremont on Friday, and they close out the regular season on Monday with a home showdown against Bonita.
Don’t let the final score mislead you, Ayala was in control throughout.
AHS led by 16 in the fourth quarter and only three Brahmas scored on Wednesday night at DBHS.
Brenden White paced the Bulldogs offense per usual with 30 points.
White hit a pair of 3’s, and he scored at least six points in each of the four quarters.
Joshua Townsell ran the offense smoothly and he finished with 14 points.
With DBHS trying to make a run with just over two minutes to play, Townsell drove to the basket, scored, got fouled and completed the three-point play.
Townsell scored half of his 14 in the fourth period.
Kyle Chang (8), Milo Tun (7) and Paul Christian (7) combined to score 22 points in the win.
Jedi Chow led Diamond Bar and all scorers with 32 points.
Chow had 19 second-half points.
Jacob Kim hit three first-quarter 3-pointers and provided 16 points in the loss.
Ayden Ellis finished with 13 for the Brahmas.
