Wrestling:
Bonita opened Palomares League play with a 45-31 victory at Ayala.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats have duked it out for league supremacy of late.
In fact, AHS has won three consecutive Palomares League crowns and they’ve shared the last two with BHS.
Ayala was under the 8-ball before the dual even began.
They surrendered 18 points because of forfeits at 106, 113 and 215 pounds.
In head-to-head matches, the Bulldogs claimed six and the Bearcats totaled five.
Jayren Chan (120), Youseff Efram (144), Mason Eligio (175) and Gahel Monge (190) each won via pinfall.
Ayala’s Aidan Aguilar (138) defeated Josiah Vivas (8-0), and heavyweight Isaiah Romero edged BHS’ Matthew Mijares, 2-1.
Bonita’s James Weitzel (126), Tyler Franco (132), Jacob Fernandez (150) and Thomas Jimenez (165) earned 24 team points as each pinned their AHS opponent.
Owen Sarver defeated Ayala’s James Galvan, 16-13, in overtime.
