No biggie.

To earn a spot in the CIF-SS Division 2 title match, Damien would have to work overtime.

Moreover, the Spartans had their greatest scoring output of the 2025 season.

DHS used a 7-4 run in the overtime periods to outlast Los Alamitos, 22-19, in the D-2 semifinal at Las Flores Park in La Verne.

It was just the third time all season that Damien had 20 goals or more and their first in over three weeks.

Zack Montoya put the Spartans on his back.

The DHS senior scored 13 goals and had a pair of assists.

Sophomore Kiki Gore added three goals and four assists.

Sophomore Landon Garcia tallied a pair of goals and three assists.

Junior Diego Solis contributed four goals and two assists.

On defense, Senior Zechariah Verduzco-Murphy dominated with six steals, leading Damien’s total of 16 steals for the night.

Sophomore goalie Brennon Dallas held strong with six saves, one assist, and a steal to help secure the win.

Los Alamitos was awarded what many considered a controversial 5-meter shot with one second remaining to send the game to overtime.

Entering the D-2 bracket ranked 20th out of 32 teams, Damien has battled their way through to the finals.

Up next: The Spartans will battle Capistrano Valley on Saturday at Mt. SAC at 2.

The Cougars (25-4) edged their hosts from Redondo Union, 10-9, on Tuesday.
