Football:
La Canada scored the game’s first 17 points in the first quarter, and they never trailed in Friday’s 30-14 victory at West Covina in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs.
LCHS quarterback Joe Bell accounted for each of the four touchdowns.
On the opening drive of the game, the Spartans drove all the way to the WCHS 5-yard line.
The West Covina defense made a stop, but Jayden Clorfeine capped the drive with a 24-yard field goal.
Bell scored on consecutive TD runs of 6 and 1 yard to give LCHS a 17-0 lead.
West Covina pulled to within 17-7 just before the half on a 14-yard TD run by Vance Davis.
The Bulldogs forced several turnovers, but their offense struggled cashing them in.
Scotty Perkins extended the La Canada advantage to 24-7 when he caught a 39-yard TD pass from Bell.
WCHS fought back again.
Moses Gogue caught a 27-yard TD pass on fourth down from Elias Irvin in the fourth quarter to once again pull to within 10.
However, Bell would seal the victory with a 67-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter.
