Water Polo:
Glendora continued to make history on Friday evening.
The Tartans edged their visitors from Temple City, 14-13, to narrowly earn a spot in the semifinal round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.
Before Tuesday’s win, GHS had never even reached the quarterfinals.
Glendora got goals from seven different players, and they got another solid effort in goal by Giancarlo Figueroa.
The Tartans used a 4-0 run in the second quarter to take an 8-4 lead into the half.
Temple City tied GHS twice in the second half, but the Rams never led after the first quarter.
Zach Newkirk had five big goals, including one each in the first and second quarters, two in the third, and his fourth-quarter score got GHS to a 13-12 lead.
Reed Thompson scored single goals in the first, second and third periods.
Collin Harper scored twice, including the Tartans’ first goal in the fourth quarter.
Drew Garrison, Logan Gibson and Ricky Busse scored one goal apiece.
Tommy Travisano’s goal in the fourth period turned out to be the game winner.
Giancarlo Figueroa blocked 14 shots and had two steals.
Up next: GHS will face Bonita on Tuesday night at Las Flores Park for a spot in the D-3 finals on the line.
The game is set for 5.
The Bearcats defeated Burbank, 13-10, in their quarterfinal round contest.
