Football:
Rio Hondo Prep secured its first 10-0 regular season since 2019.
The Kares dropped a 55-17 beatdown on their visitors from Santee.
RHP scored the game’s first 28 points, and they led 35-3 at one point.
Through 10 games, Rio Hondo Prep outscored its opponents by a combined margin of 420-158.
For those with remedial math skills, that means the Kares average margin of victory was a ridiculous 42-16.
Yanick Diaz had an unusually high stat night for an RHP quarterback.
The run-heavy Kares saw their QB complete 7-of-11 for 159 yards.
That included three TD passes and one pick.
Diaz found Tyler Dang (35 yards), Elias Har (12) and Nathaniel Shine (53) on scoring strikes.
Shine led the ground game with 67 yards on just a pair of carries.
Noah Penunuri only got two carries for 15 yards, but one was a 1-yard TD run.
Gomez gained 59 yards on three carries.
Blaize Torrez carried the ball twice for 25 yards.
Dang had a pair of receptions for 71 yards.
Christian Lee totaled 33 receiving yards on two catches.
Rainn Pollock had a 19-yard reception.
Nicolas Harrington and Lee led RHP with five tackles apiece.
Brayden Vinton and Ethan Lo both had four tackles.
Torrez had a pair of tackles, including a sack.
Landon Scott and Aiden Delgadillo had three tackles apiece in Thursday’s win.
Up next: The Kares will get their CIF-SS first round opponent on Sunday morning at 10.
