Football:
As has been the story all season, Bonita went to battle without some key starters.
The Bearcats also had a number of athletes limping around and showing their toughness in a week nine Sierra League contest at Los Osos.
BHS got out to a 28-0 lead, and they would cruise to a 28-7 victory over the Grizzlies.
Bonita scored on their first drive and the outcome was never in doubt.
The Bearcats improved to 4-0 in league games, and they’ll host Charter Oak next Thursday with nothing less than the Sierra League championship on the line.
As mentioned earlier, BHS got out to an early lead.
After the Bonita ‘D’ made a stop on the Grizzlies first possession of the game, Travis Lippert hit Jacob Maddox on a 60-yard TD strike.
Maddox beat multiple Los Osos defenders on his long catch and run into the east end zone.
Later in the game, Maddox picked a LOHS pass on defense.
Lippert would double the lead after finding Ezekiel Velarde on a 19-yard TD pass.
Matt Milazzo had an outstanding 24-yard TD catch as you’ll see in the video below.
Bonita took that 21-0 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Sebastian Vasquez scored on a 7-yard TD run out of the wildcat formation.
The Grizzlies lone score came on a 1-yard TD run from Kaidyn Garrett in the fourth quarter.
Ryder Grosenbach picked a pass for BHS.
Up next: The Bearcats will find out shortly if they can keep the high-flying Charter Oak offense in check.
The Chargers average 37 points per game, and they hope to pay Bonita back for the 49-21 ass kicking that was inflicted on them back in week nine of 2024.
BHS will need to control the time of possession battle and limit turnovers if they’re to win a second consecutive league championship.
