Football:
From the outside looking in, there didn’t seem to be too many reasons for Glendora to be optimistic about their chances on Friday night.
The Tartans were sitting in the Sierra League cellar after consecutive losses to Charter Oak, Bonita and Colony by a combined margin of 107-17.
And Claremont was finally getting their stud quarterback Brandon Coronado back after a horrible car accident a number of weeks ago.
After erasing three deficits, GHS shut the Wolfpack out in the second half to secure a 35-21 road win.
It’s the Tartans first Sierra League win of the season.
Kingson Fajardo caught 7-and-16-yard TD passes from Coronado to give Claremont a 7-0 and 14-7 lead in the first quarter.
Tai Thompson rumbled in from 18 yards out with 5:33 remaining in the half, and the Wolfpack took their third and final lead of the game at 21-14.
Glendora got a game-changing performance from Nazir McGlothen.
The GHS junior carried the ball 21 times for 180 yards.
And that included TD runs of 37, 53 and 1 yards.
McGlothen also caught a 2-yard TD pass from Sebastian Lawrence with just 16 seconds left in the first half to catch the Wolfpack at 21-21.
Lawrence hooked up with Jarod Ceniceros on a 34-yard TD strike on the final play of the first quarter.
Lawrence completed 12-of-21 for 200 yards, including two TDs & one pick.
Ceniceros caught four passes for 98 yards and one score.
Aidan Yamazaki had eight tackles and an interception on defense.
On the other side of the ball, Yamazaki caught four passes for 57 yards.
Johnny Jabbour also picked a pass for the GHS defense.
