Volleyball:

Apparently, Marshall’s run to an historic first Mission Valley League title was no fluke.

Since then, the Eagles have a pair of CIF-SS Division 6 victories.

Perhaps most impressive is that Marshall won both matches on the road.

They persevered in a five-set win at Charter Oak.

And on Thursday, Marshall headed home from Norwalk with a four-game victory.

The Eagles won by scores of 28-26, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-15.

They had a season-high 54 kills.

Ashley Dominguez provided four aces, seven digs, two kills and a career-high 52 assists.

Naomi Taylor led the way with 22 kills, five aces and three blocks.

Livsey Teems chipped in with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Noelle Taylor finished with 13 kills.

Leno Lao and Harlem Castro had 13 digs apiece.

Quotable:

Marshall coach, Jeff Thai: “We started the game a bit frantic and got into an early hole, but once the girls settled down, we were able to play the way we’ve played all year and were able to take care of business. Once again, our defense came up big when needed, and our offense was doing really well. Now, we get right back to practice and prepare for a tough quarterfinal round match.”

Up next: The Eagles will host Pacifica of Garden Grove on Wednesday evening.

The Mariners (17-15) swept Western in the first round, and they knocked off No. 1 seeded Oakwood in three in the second.
