Football:
It appears that no area program has flown under the radar more quietly than Alta Loma.
And it would be difficult to find a team that has more underclassmen making bigger contributions.
The Lions are off to a 5-2 start, and they just secured Valle Vista League victory No. 1 of the season.
It almost seemed like a must-win after dropping the VVL opener (28-26) to their visitors from West Covina just a week ago.
So, ALHS went to Baldwin Park, and headed home with a comfortable and impressive 35-6 victory.
The Lions ‘D’ held the Braves to just six second-quarter points.
Kristopher Biggers had a big game offensively.
The Alta Loma sophomore gained 125 yards on 11 carries.
And that included a pair of TD runs.
He had an 11-yard average per carry and a long of 65 yards.
Maximus Fierro completed 10-of-17 for 119 yards.
The freshman also carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards and one score.
Izaih Brown gained 35 yards on five carries and one TD.
Brent Avila caught five passes for 42 yards.
Josiah Smith-Hart (2-for-41) and Semaj Stewart (2-for-34) combined to reel in four passes for 75 yards.

Defensively, sophomore Owen Fiorenza led ALHS with eight tackles and he had a pick-six that was called back.
But the interception stood.
Through seven games, Fiorenza has 72 tackles, which is 24 more than his next closest teammate (Colin Boen, 48).
Stewart had four tackles to go with his pick-six.
Ryder Dunlap was second in tackles with seven.
Mason Kovar, Jayden Hubbard, Devon White and Boen had five tackles apiece.
Ben Dorsey had four tackles and a sack.

In the first seven games on his high school career, Maximus Fierro has completed 86-of-151 for 1,055 yards.
Fierro has tossed 13 TD passes and three interceptions.
He’s also gained 205 yards on 41 carries.
And Fierro’s four TD runs is tied for the team high with Brown and Biggers.
Up next: ALHS will host Diamond Ranch on Friday at 7.
The Panthers (3-4, 0-2) were run over (47-14) at Northview.

Quotable:
Alta Loma quarterback, Maximus Fierro: “The win felt good. I think a lot of people outside of our locker room were surprised that we won, and how we won. But I don’t think anyone in our circle went into that game expecting a different outcome. It felt good to put together a full team win with big plays in the passing game, run game, pass defense, run defense and special teams. We’re a young team, and there’s a lot of people to prove wrong, but for me, it’s more important to prove the ones right that are in our corner and helped us get here. We have great coaches and a locker room that believes we can line up with the best.”
Alta Loma linebacker, Owen Fiorenza: “I think this win was huge for us, especially in our league. It really showed the way we’ve grown and our ability to communicate on defense and trust our brothers next to us. The offense came together and did their part making big plays when we needed them and keeping momentum on our side. It was a full team effort.”
