Tennis:
Thanks to Maranatha for this report:
With improved returners, new key freshmen, and a never-say-die spirit, the improved Whittier Christian Heralds competed hard with the league leading Lady Minutemen, giving them all they could handle.
Their perseverance, especially showed in singles, where the Heralds outhustled and outlasted the Lady Minutemen, 5-4, putting more balls in play and getting them to play their game.
However, Maranatha’s doubles depth was too much, resulting in a 9-0 sweep.
Overall, the Lady Minutemen weren’t at their sharpest, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort.
After intense back-to-back wins against last year’s top two league teams, mental and physical fatigue looked to be a factor.
In the end, though not at their best, they still found a way to play good efficient tennis.
With the win, Maranatha’s overall record is now 12-0, while holding a 3-0 league mark.
Up next: The Lady Minutemen will travel to Cerritos next Thursday for a highly anticipated rematch with the Valley Christian Defenders, whom they edged, 11-7, earlier in the week.
