Football:
Bonita got out to an early 14-point lead in Thursday’s Sierra League showdown with their visitors from Glendora.
And the outcome was never in doubt, as the Bearcats cruised to a 33-10 victory.
BHS is now 2-0 in league games, and in spite of all their key injuries, they are 5-2 on the field.
The Bearcats self-reported an ineligible player who came in with three minutes remaining and a 37-0 lead in a week-one contest against Diamond Ranch.
But back to week two of Sierra League play.
Sebastian Vasquez gave Bonita a 7-0 lead with his 1-yard TD run just 4:28 into the first quarter.
Five minutes later, Drew Apodaca doubled the Bearcats advantage with a 1-yard TD of his own.
Glendora’s only points through the first three quarters came from a 22-yard field goal from the reliable Nick Norell with 9:29 to play in the first half.
Just before the end of the half, Jacob Maddox beat a Glendora defender and Lippert found him in the west end zone for a 16-yard TD pass and a 20-3 lead.
Bonita scored 10 points in the third quarter starting with a 23-yard field goal from Adam Hodgson.
And then Lippert connected with Levi Gregorich on 26-yard scoring strike to extend the Bonita lead to 30-3.
Glendora’s lone TD came on a 22-yard connection from quarterback Sebastian Lawrence to Tyson Rush with 10 minutes to play.
Hodgson closed out the scoring with a 31-yard field goal for the Bearcats.
Lippert finished an efficient 17-of-21 for 231 yards and the two scores.
Maddox caught six passes for 115 yards and the first-half TD.
Apodaca and Vasquez combined to gain 84 rushing yards in the win.
For Glendora, Lawrence threw for 185 yards and the one TD pass.
Aidan Yamazaki caught six passes for north of 100 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, last year’s SGV leader in tackles totaled 10 on Thursday night.

Quotable:
Bonita co-head coach, Bo Beatty: “I thought we threw the ball really well and Travis (Lippert) made good decisions. On defense, I thought we flew around and swarmed the ball. We need to clean up the little things. There are little things that others might not think matter, but they do. And we want to fix them.”
Bonita quarterback, Travis Lippert: “I felt very good going into this game against Glendora. I thought we had a great game plan going in and we came out and executed that very well. Our offense is clicking on all levels right now and we are excited to continue league play.”
