Brian Salazar Throws for 271 Yards & Four TDs in Citrus’ 30-24 Victory at Santa Ana; Owls Take 4-1 Record into Bye Week

Citrus remained unbeaten in National Division Northern Conference play with a 30-24 victory at Santa Ana.

The Owls were in control throughout.

Leading 30-17 with 54 seconds to play and a 22-yard field goal attempt turned into an 85-yard return for a Dons’ TD.

Brian Salazar continued his excellence on Saturday night.

The former Monrovia quarterback completed 21-of-29 for 271 yards.

He tossed four TDs and didn’t turn the ball over.

Salazar connected with Cameron Bateman on TD passes of 58 and 26 yards to give the Owls a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.

He also hooked up with Keaton Morales on a 9-yard score and Lorenza Simmons on a 60-yard TD strike.

Bateman had seven receptions for 116 yards and the two scores.

Simmons caught three passes for 61 yards.

Jojo Enriquez had a 44-yard reception.

Morales finished with 26 receiving yards on four catches.

Keyonn Chatman had game highs in carries (11) and rushing yards (80).

Former Northview two-way star Angel Barraza gained 57 yards on three carries.

Alex Hernandez booted a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Speaking of Northview, the Vikings’ Raymond Esparza had a game-high nine tackles for the winners.

Thomas White, Jadakiss Vaokakala and Leo Lopez contributed eight tackles apiece.

Elijah Ybanez and Maddox Barrios tallied seven tackles each for the Owls defense.

Curlee Kirkpatrick picked off two Santa Ana passes to go with four tackles.

Justin Gil completed 14-of-24 for the Dons for 189 yards.

Gil tossed a 42-yard TD pass to Damian Gomez to go with the two interceptions.

Brandon Giron led the Santa Ana ground game with 65 yards on 20 carries, including a 1-yard TD run early in the second quarter to pull to within 17-7 of the Owls.

Deacon Moss caught seven passes for 125 yards, and Gomez finished with three receptions for 50 yards.

Up next: The Owls will enjoy its bye week, and on October 11th, they’ll host Long Beach.

The Vikings dropped a 23-21 decision to their visitors from Allan Hancock.
