Football:
Mt. SAC reacted very well to last week’s five-point upset at Citrus.
The Mounties got out to an early lead, and they trounced their visitors from Moorpark, 61-12, to earn their first National Division Northern Conference victory.
Perhaps most satisfying was the ability to get almost their entire roster into Saturday’s contest in Walnut.
And that included TD passes from three different quarterbacks.
The Mounties actually fumbled the opening kickoff, and on the Raiders first offensive snap, Mt. SAC recovered a Moorpark fumble, and they were off to the races.
They led 14-0 just 4:55 into the game, and it was 35-0 before Moorpark scored midway through the second quarter.
Aiden Ramos had game highs in carries (9), rushing yards (68) and rushing TDs (3).
Ramos had TD runs of 5, 6 and 7 yards in limited minutes.
Daunte Bell completed 5-of-9 for 129 yards.
Bell tossed a 37-yard TD pass to Elijah Crook just 1:14 seconds into the game.
Hunter Herrera was 4-of-9 for 73 yards, and he found Devon Anderson on a 61-yard TD in the first quarter.
Former Glendora quarterback Eric Najarro saw some action, completing 5-of-6 for 45 yards.
Najarro hooked up with Jayden Nolen on a 15-yard scoring strike.
Samuel Gamino (9-for-36), Jamel Sly (6-for-29) and Bell (3-for-24) combined to carry the ball 18 times for 89 yards.
Anderson caught three passes for 113 yards and the score.
Crook had four receptions for 60 yards.
Aidan Leyland had a 29-yard reception.
Teyondre Coleman had a game-high 12 tackles, including 2.5 sacks.
Michael Young tallied five tackles, while Kaleb McNeal, Dakota Mendoza, Brandyn Wetherspoon and David Medellin had four tackles apiece.
Wetherspoon picked a Moorpark pass and brought it back 32-yards for the pick-six.
Solomon Tripline had one pick to go with his two tackles for Mt. SAC.
Sirawn Evans completed 14-of-25 for 112 yards and one pick in the loss.
Dylan Hassid was 10-of-16 for 112 yards, including a 5-yard TD pass to Angel Urban and one interception.
Ryan Yenokian led the Raiders with 26 rushing yards on three carries, while Carson Green had three carries for 24 yards.
Dameian Hernandez had five receptions for 64 yards.
Urban caught five passes for 52 yards and the one score.
Ja’Tyrian Moore totaled 59 receiving yards on six catches.
Nolan Story led the Raiders defense with 10 tackles, while Tyler Woods had seven.
Up next: The Mounties will take next week off, and head to Santa Barbara on October 11th.
The Vaqueros (0-5, 0-2) endured a 73-14 ass kicking at the hands of Ventura.
