Irving, Villescas & Gogue Spark West Covina Offense in a 35-14 Victory Over South Pasadena; Bulldogs Enter VVL Play at 3-2

Football:

After dropping its season opener, the West Covina football program heads into Valle Vista League play next week having won three of their last four games.

And that includes a 35-14 nonleague victory over visiting South Pasadena on Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs took a 21-7 lead into the break, and they never trailed.

Elias Irving completed 8-of-13 for 144 yards and two TDs.

Chris Perez completed his only pass attempt of the night for five yards.

Isaac Villescas paced the WCHS ground game.

The Bulldogs junior gained 120 yards on 10 carries, including one score.

Vance Davis carried the ball four times for 52 yards and one TD.

Noah Davis gained 38 yards on five carries.

Irving had three carries for 13 yards and one score.

Josiah Joseph had a 12-yard run in Thursday’s win.

Mo Gogue caught a pair of passes for 84 yards and one TD.

Vance Davis had four receptions for 15 yards, including one score.

Noah Davis (1-for-27), Demond Newman (1-for-14) and Elias Serafin (1-for-9) had one catch apiece for a combined 50 yards.

South Pasadena’s Andrew Nott completed 3-of-7 for 83 yards with no TDs and two picks.

Cody Robinson went 7-of-17 for 100 yards and one interception.

Trey Freking had 100 yards rushing on 22 carries and one TD for the Tigers.

Tatem Mendoza led the SPHS receiving corps with four catches for 92 yards.

Lorcan Swift totaled 49 receiving yards on three catches.

Jasper Heathfield led the Tigers defense with eight tackles.

Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Alta Loma on Friday at 7 to open VVL play.

ALHS (4-1) is coming off a 20-6 victory at Silverado.
