The Lancers opened National Central Conference play on Saturday afternoon at winless Canyons.
Pasadena City had advantages in first downs (26-12), fourth-down efficiency (4-of-5 to 0-for-0), passing (318-131) and the time of possession battle (38-22).
The Lancers were flagged just one time for five yards, while the Cougars had 12 penalties levied against them for 112 yards.
And yet Canyons held on for a 20-14 lead.
They took a 20-0 lead into the half.
The Cougars had advantages in rushing yards (264-53), total offense (395-371) and their defense picked two Lancers’ quarterbacks a total of three times.
Isaiah Rameau carried the ball 18 times for 188 yards.
Rameau scored on TD runs of 38 and 60 yards.
Jazel Riley completed 7-of-9 for 122 yards in the win.
He hooked up with Cole Crawford on an 81-yard TD pass midway through the second quarter.
PCC got on the board on the last play of the third quarter when Cam Mitchell caught a 36-yard TD pass from Matt Grizzell.
The Lancers scored on a 4-yard TD pass from Xavier Buckles to Ethan Hubbell with four seconds to play.
Grizzell went 10-of-20 for 127 yards.
He had the one TD and one interception.
Buckles completed 20-of-37 for 191 yards.
Buckles got picked twice.
Noah Triplett led the PCC ground game with 53 yards on eight carries.
Mitchell caught three passes for 69 yards and the one score.
Josh Soto reeled in four passes for 65 yards.
Jagg Richer had three receptions for 37 yards.
Javery Mayberry caught five passes for 34 yards.
Triplett had a game-high six receptions for 30 yards.
Jasun Ridley led the Lancers with seven tackles.
Coleman Morning totaled six tackles, while Ethan Bowser and Quishawn Stanford had four tackles apiece.
Arturo Ayers picked a pass and brough it back 35 yards.
Up next: The Lancers will host Bakersfield next Saturday night at 6 before taking their bye week.
