Rock legend Bryan Adams had an album that describes the 2025 Rio Hondo Prep football program accurately.
It was called ‘so far, so good.’
RHP improved to 5-0 after a 36-7 victory at previously unbeaten Bellflower.
And the game wasn’t as close as it might sound.
The Kares scored the first five touchdowns before the Bucs got on the board some four minutes into the fourth quarter.
RHP got their stud Noah Penunuri back for the first time since he endured a spearing in week zero that bruised his ribs.
Penunuri was used sparingly, but he did score on a 5-yard TD run with 3:55 to play in the first half.
It gave the Kares a 36-0 lead.
Rio Hondo Prep had a 166-54 advantage on the ground and a 13-7 edge in first downs.
The boys from that little school in Arcadia played a disciplined game as well.
They were flagged just one time for 15 yards, while Bellflower was penalized eight times for 74 yards.
Christian Lee rushed for 55 yards on five carries, including TD runs of 7 and 2 yards.
Tyler Dang gained 47 yards on three carries, and he caught one pass for 11 yards.
Calogero Chico carried the ball four times for 20 yards.
Deven Gomez got RHP on the board with a 2-yard TD run at the 3:53 mark of the first quarter.
Gomez finished with 16 yards on three carries.
Nathaniel Shine also had three carries for 15 yards.
Yanick Diaz completed 3-of-7 for 38 yards, including an 8-yard TD pass on the first play of the second quarter to give the Kares a 15-0 lead.
Blaize Torrez caught two passes for 22 yards.
Penunuri led the Kares in tackles with five.
Troy Seto had four tackles and Shine had three.
The RHP defense held Bellflower to 149 yards of total offense.
Up next: The Kares will host St. Anthony on Friday at 7.
The Saints are 0-4 to start 2025, and they’ve been outscored 129-34.
