Football:
It has been a very rough start to the 2025 fall season for the Ayala football program and the school in general.
And keep in mind, we’re just five weeks in.
More than a handful of on-campus sources at the Chino Hills school say the toxicity and turmoil has cost them one of the area’s most respected athletic directors, Warren Reed, who left his post after nearly two decades of service.
Reed now teaches at Bonita High School.
AJ Gracia, who went 59-35 between 2016-2024, including five league titles, bailed to become the athletic director and an administrator at his alma mater (Chino High).
And on Friday night, Glendora poured some salt into the many AHS wounds.
In a battle of 0-4 teams, GHS put a 45-7 ass kicking on Ayala at Citrus College.
The Tartans led 42-0 before the Bulldogs scored late in the third quarter.
Through the first five games, Ayala has been outscored 183-48 by Summit, Canyon, La Habra, Villa Park and Glendora.
Unfortunately, it’s not going to get any better, as the Bulldogs open Baseline League play on October 3rd after a week-five bye.
But let’s get to Glendora, because it was their night.
A number of Tartans played starring roles, including Nazir McGlothen.
McGlothen an 85-yard punt return for a TD on the last play of the first half, and a 60-yard pick-six midway through the third quarter.
Johnny Jabbour gained 39 yards on seven carries.
That included a 25-yard TD run at 5:11 of the first quarter, and a 39-yard pick-six in the second period to give GHS a 21-0 lead.
Sebastian Lawrence completed 12-of-17 for 148 yards.
Lawrence tossed a 9-yard TD pass to Jarod Ceniceros, and a 1-yard score to Aspen Suprenant.
Ceniceros caught three passes for 37 yards.
Suprenant reeled in three receptions for 32 yards.
Aidan Yamazaki had two catches for 34 yards, and he carried the ball five times for 20 yards.
Yamazaki also had seven tackles in just one half of play.
Henry Hiwakawa picked a pass for the Tartans defense.
For the second week in a row, Nick Norell booted a 40-plus yard field goal.
Last week, the sophomore was good from 41 yards.
And last night, he finished the Glendora scoring with a 42-yard field goal with 3:45 to play in the game.
Unfortunately, not everything was good news for the Tartans.
Dylan Hynes, who was in the midst of having a solid night, left game with 1:11 left in the second quarter with a dislocated ankle.
We all send our best to Dylan.
Up next: GHS will enter its bye week, and on 10/3, the Tartans will open Sierra League play at Charter Oak.
The Chargers (3-1) had a week-four bye.

Quotable:
Glendora senior, Aidan Yamazaki: “It feels great. Glendora and Ayala do not like each other very much in football or baseball. They talk a lot. But they’ve had success against us. We watched film on Monday, and this isn’t the most explosive Ayala team we’ve faced. We were 0-and-4, and they were 0-and-4, and we were hungry for our first win. This felt like the week we’d get our first win. We had our best week of practice, and everyone was fired up. Everybody played well and we got the win.”
