Football:

Last week, Marcel Perez left Citrus College a little perturbed at the way his Vikings had executed the game plan and their lack of discipline from time to time.

And keep in mind, Northview secured a 22-16 victory over Glendora by outscoring the Tartans 15-0 in the second half.

Fast forward one week and NHS made major strides forward in a 28-23 victory over La Serne at California High School in Whittier.

Northview got out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and they never trailed.

The Vikings are now 3-1.

Robert Lucero completed 10-of-14 for 136 yards.

Lucero tossed a pair of TD passes and didn’t turn the ball over.

The Vikings’ quarterback also rushed for 69 yards on 10 carries.

Zachary Garza led the NHS ground game with 89 yards on 18 carries.

And that included a pair of TD runs.

Isaiah Lucero caught four passes from his brother for 32 yards and two scores.

Jaishon Bledsoe totaled 83 receiving yards on four catches.

Jacob Cruz led the Northview defense with 12 tackles.

Andrew Ramos (7), Miguel Guillen (6) and Jeremiah Alcantara (5) combined for 18 tackles in the win.

Up next: The Vikings will battle Covina on Friday at 7.

The Colts (2-1) had a week-three bye.

Quotable:

Northview coach, Marcel Perez: “We talked about getting back to what makes us good, which is playing physical defense and running the ball. We also spoke about playing like a team and we were able to do that. It was a great team win for us.”
