Football:
One year ago, South Hills forced West Covina to swallow a very bitter pill in the annual Kings of Cameron rivalry game.
The Huskies outscored their hosts 13-0 in the fourth quarter to edge the Bulldogs, 16-13.
It snapped a four-game losing streak to West Covina.
Fast forward to September 12th, 2025, and WCHS dropped the hammer with a 48-23 victory at Covina District Field.
West Covina led 28-7 at the half and the outcome was never in doubt.
Elias Irvin made a great impression in his first start at quarterback.
Irvin tossed three TD passes, including 7-and-6-yard scoring strikes to Moses Gogue.
He also hooked up with Vance Davis on a 65-yard TD in the second half.
Isaac Villescas had a big night as well.
Villescas scored on a 37-yard run to give WCHS a 7-0 lead.
And after an SHHS touchdown, Villescas returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a TD.
Noah Davis (20 yards) and Isaiah Rodrigues (10) had one TD run apiece.
In fact, Rodrigues completed a rarity of scoring a TD and then botting the extra point.
Fabian Mares got South Hills even at 7-7 thanks to his 7-yard TD run in the first quarter.
Jacob Gallardo had a 61-yard TD run for the Huskies and Isaiah Castellano’s 9-yard TD run was the final score of the game for either program.
South Hills shot itself in the foot with a number of turnovers that West Covina turned into 21 points.
Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Rancho Bernardo on Friday at 7.
The Broncos (3-0) had a week-three bye.
The Huskies will travel to Santa Fe.
The Chiefs (1-3) dropped a 35-7 decision at Fullerton.
