Football:
For the third consecutive week, Mt. SAC fell behind early and they got off to a slow start offensively.
However, for the third week in a row, the Mounties rallied and fended off Cerritos, San Diego Mesa and El Camino.
On Saturday, El Camino scored the first 13 points, including a safety.
Mt. SAC, though, would score 28 unanswered points. and they held on for a 37-27 victory over their visitors from Torrance.
The Mounties had advantages in first downs (34-21), total offense (476-351), passing (248-127), rushing (228-224) and the time of possession battle (37-23).
One area that had to drive Mt. SAC legend Bob Jastrab crazy was the Mounties lack of discipline.
The boys from Walnut were flagged 15 times for 149 yards, as compared to El Camino’s eight penalties for 82 yards.
Mt. SAC had a pair of 100-yard rushers.
Devyn Turner carried the ball 13 times for 123 yards.
Aiden Ramos gained 109 yards on 12 carries.
And that included an 18-yard TD run with 2:49 to play in the first half to give the Mounties a 21-13 lead.
Daunte Bell completed 12-of-22 for 202 yards and a pair of TDs.
Bell also gained 21 yards on eight carries, including TD runs of 1 and 5 yards.
Bell hit Sherard Willis on a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter, and with 17 seconds to play in the half, he hooked up with Devon Anderson on a 15-yard scoring strike to give Mt. SAC a 28-13 lead at the break.
Damien Smith caught two passes for 51 yards and Aidan Leyland had a pair of receptions for 45 yards.
Anderson finished with 42 receiving yards on three catches and the one score.
Nasjae Richardson led the Mounties defense with eight tackles, and Jeremiah Faustin had six.
Michael Young and Jayden Murrietta totaled five tackles apiece.
Dakota Mendoza and Kanyee Childress had one interception apiece for the Mt. SAC defense.
Damonte Bias led El Camino with 115 yards on seven carries.
And that included a 71-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Evan Tomich and Andrew Maushardt combined to complete 13-of-28 for 127 yards, one TD and two picks.
Ramon Gilbert caught three passes for 39 yards, including a 6-yard TD from Tomich just 52 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Up next: The Mounties travel to Glendora to battle Citrus next Saturday at 6.
The Owls (2-1) came home from San Diego Mesa with a 24-21 victory.
