Football:
Claremont had every chance to fold on Friday evening.
They had at least a 2-to-1 disadvantage in penalties levied against them.
And their hosts from Diamond Bar took advantage of some lapses in CHS’ special teams play, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a TD.
However, second-year Claremont coach Jake Caron and his staff had their players ready to respond every time the Brahmas took a lead or regained momentum on a number of occasions.
The Wolfpack outscored the Brahmas 28-13 in the second half, and they went on to secure a 50-42 victory at DBHS.
The 50 points was the program’s best since 2016 when they outlasted this same Diamond Bar program, 55-41, in week nine.
Glendora transfer Brandon Coronado had a monster night for the Wolfpack.
Coronado tossed four TD passes and rushed for two more.
He accounted for 417 yards of total offense.
Coronado completed 19-of-32 for 340 yards.
He had TD passes of 35-and-15 yards to Kingston Fajardo.
A 22-yard scoring strike to Max Leeper and a 35-yard TD pass to Tai Thompson.
Coronado also rushed for 77 yards, including TD runs of 3 and 1 yards.
He also converted a few 2-point conversions.
Fajardo finished with five catches for 120 yards, two scores, six tackles and one pick on defense.
Leeper reeled in six passes for 101 yards and the one score.
Doug Yegge had five receptions for 77 yards.
Thompson had 75 rushing yards, and he caught a pair of passes for 52 yards.
Thompson had one rushing and one receiving TD.
Up next: The Wolfpack will host Alta Loma next Friday at 7.
The Braves (2-0) are coming off a 20-13 victory over Los Osos.
