Baseball:
San Dimas responded very well to its 2-0 CIF-SS Division 3 title game loss to Glendora on Saturday.
Four days later, the Saints made the 177-mile drive to Santa Maria and secured a 6-3 victory in the first round of the CIF State Division 2 playoffs.
SDHS scored twice in the third and four times in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.
Joseph Layva went 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
Layva walked two and fanned a pair of SJHS batters to earn the win.
Eleazar Santillan was responsible for one run on three hits over 2/3 of an inning.
Josh Calcanas got the final six outs without any damage.
Calcanas allowed one hit, issued one walk and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Erik Furness went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Niko Peinado walked, singled and scored.
Ashton Bluem walked and singled.
Connor Chanley singled, scored and drove in one run.
Robbie Roemling singled and scored.
Dominik Hernandez walked and singled.
Jayson Rodriguez got the loss after surrendering six runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Rodriguez didn’t give a free pass, and he struck out four SDHS batters.
Vaughn Coleman singled, scored twice and had a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Jayden Claros had a pair of RBI singles.
Ashton Romero singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Aaden Escarcega singled and scored.
Jason Almeda doubled and scored two runs.
AJ Larios singled and scored.
Jayden Medina singled once in the win.
Up next: The Saints will travel to San Diego to take on Point Loma on Thursday at 4.
The Pointers (21-12-1) edged their hosts from El Camino Real, 6-4, on Tuesday.
