Baseball:
Marshall will play in its first CIF-SS championship game this coming weekend for the first time since 2019.
The Eagles edged their visitors from Heritage Christian, 4-3, in a CIF-SS Division 6 semifinal round contest.
Marshall never trailed, but they also never led by more than one run.
Michael Gerst went 3 2/3 innings, and he was responsible for one run on three hits.
Gerst issued four walks and registered six strikeouts.
Nate Callaway was credited with the win after 2 1/3 innings in relief, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Callaway walked three and struck out a trio of HCHS batters.
Caleb Thatcher earned the save by going a scoreless and hitless seventh, and he issued a pair of walks.
Christian Boldt went 3-for-4 with a walk, one run, a double, a solo HR in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth.
Nick Boldt walked, singled twice and scored.
Nick Aguilar walked and singled.
Eden Nalin drew a pair of walks and had an RBI ground out.
Nick Aguilar went five innings, and he was charged with three runs on six hits.
Aguilar issued a pair of walks and registered two strikeouts.
Cullen Hirtensteiner got the loss after allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk.
Hirtensteiner struck out two Marshall batters.
Thatcher went 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs, and his solo home run in the fifth inning gave Marshall a 3-2 lead.
Trevor Lain singled twice, including an RBI base hit in the third.
Ben Muro’s RBI double in the sixth turned out to be the game-winning run.
Adan Castro walked and scored.
Nate Callway singled in a run in the first inning.
Sandro DiClaudio singled once in Tuesday’s win.
Up next: The Eagles will battle Estancia this weekend for the D-6 title.
CIF will determine the day and time on Wednesday.
EHS (19-13) edged their visitors from Rancho Mirage, 4-3, on Tuesday.
