Brenden Menchaca Gets Start in Monday’s 3C2A Title Tilt; Mounties Need One Win to Earn First State Championship in 60 Years

College Baseball:

Good luck to ALL 33 Mt. SAC players this morning in their quest of securing the program a first state championship in 60 years.

And we’re sending special wishes to the 14 players from 210 Prep Sports programs.

MSAC will host West Valley at 11 am today (Monday).

The Mounties need just one win to secure the state crown.

If West Valley were to take Monday’s early game, the Mounties and Vikings would play approximately 45 minutes later in a winner-take-all scenario.

On Sunday afternoon, Mt. SAC defeated West Valley, 9-3, and then the Vikings ended Cypress’ season with a 16-4 elimination beatdown over the Chargers.

The nightcap was actually tied at 4-4 in the top of the seventh.

However, West Valley scored six runs in the seventh and ninth innings to pull away.

Mt. SAC (44-6) heads into the season’s final day tied with Santa Rosa (44-3) for most wins in the state.

Santa Fe High School grad Brenden Menchaca will get the ball in game one.

Menchaca’s remarkable freshman campaign includes a 10-1 record with a 2.66 ERA.

Menchaca has issued 14 walks and registered 53 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings.

He is tied with Hudson Castillo for second in wins behind their state-leading ace, Izeah Muniz (13-1).

Menchaca is third in strikeouts behind Muniz (124) and Castillo (60)

However, Castillo has gone 30 innings more than Menchaca.

His last start was back on May 8th in a 14-6 victory over Cuesta at the Mt. SAC Super Regional.

Menchaca earned the win after going 6 1/3 innings, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Menchaca walked two and fanned seven Cougar batters.
