Softball:
The United Christian Academy enjoyed a 7-2 lead in the fifth in Saturday’s D-8 second round showdown with their visitors from Banning.
However, the next thing you know, the Broncos held an 11-8 lead as UCA picked up their bats in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Eagles would score four runs to secure a dramatic 12-11 season-saving victory.
Three of the four runs came with two outs.
The game featured a combined 23 runs, 30 hits, seven errors and just two pitchers.
Ella Leivas got the loss after surrendering 12 runs (seven earned) on 17 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Leivas issued four walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Eight of the nine UCA starters had at least one hit, and six Eagles had two or more.
Sofia Barcelo had just one hit and scored once.
That one hit, though, was a two-out two-run double to tie the game at 11-11.
Tiffany Sanchez went 2-for-5 with one run and three RBIs.
Sanchez had the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Lariah Avila walked, singled, doubled, scored three times and drove in one.
Angelica Rincon went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and one RBI.
Elizabeth Krueger singled twice, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Liliana Perez went 3-for-5, scored and drove in three.
Elizabeth Ramirez singled once for the Eagles.
Kirin Barcelo drew a pair of walks, and her sac fly drove in the first of four runs in the seventh.
Vy Kay Lam singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Avila, just like her counterpart, went the distance.
She was responsible for 11 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits.
Avila walked nine and struck out nine BHS batters.
Nicelle Soriano walked, scored twice and had an RBI single and a solo HR.
Leivas singled twice and scored.
Ariel Lugo had an RBI double and scored.
Grace Eckman singled twice and scored.
Leah Palacios drew a pair of walks, singled and scored two runs.
Heaven Elliott singled, scored and walked twice.
Veronica Flores went 2-for-4 with a walk, double, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Alex Martinez collected one hit and two RBIs.
Alexus Villasenor had an RBI double and scored.
Up next: The Eagles will battle the winner of Monday’s Nuview Bridge-Lennox Academy game on Wednesday afternoon.
