La Verne Outlasts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 11-10, in 11 Innings; Leopards Need One More Win to Secured SCIAC Tourney Title

College Baseball:

For the second consecutive day, the University of La Verne baseball program edged a conference foe by one run in SCIAC Tournament play.

On Thursday, the Leopards defeated Redlands, 4-3, and 24 hours later, ULV outlasted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 11-10, in 11 innings.

The 33 season wins is a program best since 1995.

CMS and ULV combined for 21 runs, 27 hits and 15 pitchers.

Ethan Galindo got the start, and he was charged with five runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Galindo issued five walks and fanned four.

Eight pitchers later, Gabriel Lucero earned the win.

Lucero provided 2 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief.

Lucero didn’t give a free pass, and he fanned a pair of Stags.

Bryce Didrickson drew a pair of walks, scored, had an RBI single and a two-run double.

Rider Gordon went 2-for-4 with a pair of walks, a double, one run and two RBIs.

Dillon Martin walked, singled, doubled and scored three times.

Alex Henderson went 2-for-4 with a walk, double, two runs and one RBI.

Nate Seluga singled and scored.

Andrew Mazzone walked five times, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Matthew Bergan got the start, and he was responsible for five runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Bergan walked a pair and fanned four ULV batters.

Lucas Welch was the sixth and final pitcher for the Stags, and he was charged with one run on two hits over 2/3 of an inning.

Logan Reese went 2-for-5, including the game winning single in the 11th inning.

Ryan Vosika drew a pair of walks, singled twice and drove in two.

Nathan Perry went 3-for-5 with a walk, run and three RBIs, including one via sac fly.

Noah Garcia singled twice and scored.

Nolan Anguiano walked, singled three times and scored.

Jason Givens had a pair of singles and runs scored.

Aidan Salcedo had an RBI double, drew a bases loaded walk and scored three times.

Malachi Francois walked with the bases loaded and scored.

Jake Ledford singled and Jacob Castro scored once for the boys in green.

Up next: La Verne will host the Pomona-Pitzer vs Claremont-Mudd-Scripps winner on Saturday at 2:30 at Ben Hines Field.

Pitzer and CMS battle each other at 11:30, and the victor would need to beat ULV once on Saturday and again on Sunday to claim the SCIAC Tournament title.
