Baseball:

Glendora officially flipped the script on the 2024 season.

One year after going 9-18, the Tartans improved to 18-9 after Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Downey.

The game was played at Rio Hondo College.

Brayden Johnson went three innings, and he allowed an unearned run on four hits.

Johnson walked three and fanned seven DHS batters.

Mason Danison was credited with the win after going four scoreless innings and allowing two hits.

Danison didn’t give away a free pass and struck out one.

Sebastian Cortez walked, singled and scored after a Gino Castelo bunt and a GHS error.

Roel Mercedes singled and doubled.

Derek Bringas walked and singled.

Eddie Causley and Samuel Mojica had one single apiece for the Vikings.

Fabian Lopez got the loss after allowing a pair of unearned runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Lopez issued a pair of walks and registered four strikeouts.

Trailing 1-0, Aaron Jacobsen led off the seventh inning with a double.

Riley Cooper would come on to run for Jacobsen and Cooper scored on a Tyler Olbert bunt, and an error on the Downey third baseman.

Four batters later, Olbert crossed the plate with the game winning run after a Sebastian Lawrence ground ball that was misplayed by the Vikings defense.

Jacobsen had half of Glendora’s four hits, with both being doubles.

Johnson and Danison had one single apiece to account for the rest of the Tartans offense.

Up next: The Tartans close out the regular season on Wednesday at Citrus College when they meet up with Crescenta Valley at 3:30.
