Baseball:
In less than 48 hours, Chino Hills could find themselves finishing as the Baseline League’s No. 2 seed if a few things go their way.
They took care of their own business by defeating Upland, 4-1, in the first of a three-game set this final week.
Unfortunately for Baseline League coaches, the usual five-day spread they have to utilize their pitching has been limited to three days.
Matt McCliman did the Huskies staff a world of good by going six strong innings and allowing just one run on three hits.
He issued one walk and registered 11 strikeouts.
Anthony Medyn got the final three outs, including one strikeout.
McCliman and Medyn combined to strike out 10 separate Upland batters at least once.
Carson Kinnick hit a solo HR in the fifth inning.
Julian Zambrano and Tommy Lopez had one single apiece to account for the rest of the UHS offense.
Joe Aguilar allowed just one run on two hits over five innings.
Aguilar walked a pair and struck out five.
Max Biddle was charged with two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in the sixth inning.
Frankie Brazil walked, scored twice and led off the game with a home run.
Branden Kim singled twice and scored.
Brody Buoncristiani walked and singled.
Gabriel Hernandez singled and scored.
Anthony Medyn had an RBI single in the seventh to give CHHS a 4-1 lead.
Josh Mendez drove in a run on a sac fly.
McCliman helped his own cause with an RBI fielder’s choice.
