College Baseball:
Chaffey hadn’t won a 3C2A playoff series since 2016.
After Friday’s 8-2 victory, the Panthers needed just one win on Saturday against their visitors from Golden West College.
Although the game was played at Chaffey, the Rustlers were the designated home team.
And the Panthers took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.
To their credit, GWC scored five times in the fifth and they got one more in the eighth to send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 11th, Chaffey scored five runs to take a 12-7 lead.
All five runs came on a pair of home runs, including a grand slam.
Golden West was able to push across three runs in the bottom of the 11th, but the Panthers held on for a 12-10 victory.
Joe O’Regan got the start, and he was charged with six runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.
O’Regan walked three and fanned six GWC batters.
Evan Ellis got the final two outs in the five-run fifth inning.
Ryan Harrison went the next three innings, and he allowed an unearned run on one hit and two hit batters.
Harrison didn’t issue a walk and registered three strikeouts.
Connor Luetto was credited with the win.
Luetto went 2 2/3 innings, and he surrendered three runs on four hits.
Luetto walked one and struck out a pair of Rustlers.
Michael Moses got the final out to earn the save.
Jonny Rodriguez singled four times and scored three runs from the leadoff spot.
Bryan Martinez went 2-for-6 with a double, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
JJ Robles had three singles, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Landon Runyan went 2-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs.
Cole Belfanti walked, singled and scored.
Kevin Villegas walked and scored.
Kadin Muckley got the start, and he was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits and a pair of hit batters in 2 2/3 innings.
Muckley walked one and struck out two.
Chaffey got to Luke Elward for four runs on five hits and a hit batter in 2 1/3 innings.
Elward allowed a pair of free passes and fanned three.
JJ Robles got the loss after allowing five runs on three hits, a hit batter and two walks in the 11th inning.
Robles struck out a pair of Panthers.
Derek Almeda and Jordan Daniels has been hitless until the top of the 11th inning.
Almeda led off with a solo blast.
And Daniels drove in what turned out to be the game winning runs on a grand slam.
Jayden Sanchez went 3-for-4 with three walks, a double, one run and three RBIs.
AJ Hurtado had a pair of doubles, three runs and an RBI.
Dominick Torrez singled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Eric Valdivia singled twice and scored.
Ryder Young walked and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Ryan Melton drew a pair of walks and singled.
Up next: The Panthers head to Mt. SAC on Thursday to battle in a three-team (Chaffey, Mt. SAC & Cuesta) double-elimination format.
The Super Regional runs through Saturday.
