Baseball:

One week ago, Rancho Cucamonga humbled Los Osos with a three-game Baseline League series sweep.

The Grizzlies went from tied for first place with the Cougars to three games back.

And had someone told LOHS coach Travis Kelly that seven days later he’d only be one-game out of first place, he’d borrow Stone Cold Steve Austin’s mantra of ‘oh, hell yes.’

Los Osos secured a three-game sweep of Upland and Etiwanda took two of three with RCHS to create a very interesting last couple of weeks.

Gavin Loeb Keene went five innings, and he was charged with two runs (one earned) on six hits.

He issued one walk and registered eight strikeouts.

Zenen Pena and Camden Ullah combined to provide one scoreless and hitless inning in relief apiece, and they struck out three UHS batters.

Carson Kinnick doubled and scored for Upland.

Tommy Lopez and Nick Serna had two hits apiece.

Darien Maung went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Julian Zambrano walked and singled.

Max Biddle went 4 1/3 innings, and he was charged with two runs on three hits.

Biddle walked two and fanned four LOHS batters.

The Grizzlies got to Issac Carlos for five runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk over 2/3 of an inning.

Drew Cromwell went 2-for-2, scored and had a two-run triple.

Justin Yeutter walked and scored a pair of runs.

Hunter Meyer went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Reagan Samples had an RBI double and scored.

Roberto Topete also went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Sean Brian walked, singled, scored and drove in a run.

John Flores went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.

Josh Chairez walked and scored, and Wyatt Mohler doubled.

Quotable:

Los Osos pitcher, Gavin Loeb Keene: “We did our part getting the sweep and getting done what we needed to. After being swept by RCHS, we knew we had to get back to our game. Our hitters got some extra hitting in. The pitchers knew it was unlucky, and it happens in baseball. We just needed to get back to playing Los Osos baseball. It was a huge game, and we needed the win today, and I just wanted to make sure I gave us a chance to win. Early on, I had all three pitches going. I was working inside and getting a lot of soft contact. With eight K’s, I had command, and I was able to keep their hitters off balance. I felt like the high fastball was very effective for me today.”
