Baseball:
West Covina kept its Valle Vista League title aspirations alive thanks to a 7-5 victory at Covina.
The Bulldogs trailed 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but they scored six times and narrowly held on to remain one-game back of first place Northview.
Declan Bowers got the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits over five innings.
Bowers didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.
Donovan Johnson provided two scoreless and hitless innings in relief.
Johnson walked one and fanned one WCHS batter.
Marciano Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double, run and one RBI.
Isaac Infraca singled twice, scored and drew a bases loaded walk.
Austin Nguyen went 2-for-4 with a double, run and one RBI.
Andrew Maldonado singled twice, scored and drove in one run.
Ethan Okazaki went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Max Murillo scored, and he was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Griffey Moncada and Marcus Mayweather had one single apiece for the Bulldogs.
Izaiah Hernandez had an RBI single in the top of the third to pull WCHS to within 3-1 of Covina.
Murillo went 6 2/3 innings, and he was charged with five runs (three earned) on nine hits.
Murillo issued three walks and registered six strikeouts.
Mayweather got the final out via strikeout.
Lucas Thorpe singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Ryan Silva went 2-for-3 with a walk and one run.
Jacob Alvarez had a pair of singles, walked and drove in two in the bottom of the seventh.
Bowers had an RBI double in the first to give CHS a 1-0 lead.
Donovan Johnson went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Ricardo Alvarez singled and Damien Morimoto scored.
Joseph Garcia had an RBI single to give Covina a 2-0 lead.
