Baseball:
Chino Hills scored one run in the bottom of the first inning against their visitors from Damien.
And Brody Buoncristiani and Matt McCliman combined to make that stand up in a 1-0 victory.
Both the Spartans and Huskies managed just two hits apiece on Wednesday.
Buoncristiani went 5 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed one hit.
He issued one walk and registered seven strikeouts.
McCliman got the final five outs without any damage in spite of walking three and giving up one hit.
McCliman struck out a trio of Spartans to earn the save.
Elius Kelly walked, singled and doubled to account for all of Damien’s offense.
Andrew Torres deserved a better fate.
Torres went all six innings, and he was charged with an unearned run on two hits.
Torres didn’t issue a walk, and he registered four strikeouts.
Matt Mendez led off the bottom of the first with a double, and he’d eventually score on an RBI ground from John Mendez.
Anthony Medyn had the other CHHS base hit.
