Baseball:
Northview sure picked a good time to find its rhythm.
The Vikings grasped half of the Valle Vista League’s top spot after Tuesday’s 4-1 victory at first place Charter Oak.
With five VVL games to play, including Thursday’s home game with the Chargers, NHS and COHS are both 4-1 in league games.
If Northview sweeps Charter Oak, you’d have to like their chances.
NHS has two games each versus Rowland and Wilson, who are a combined 1-9 in VVL games.
But back to Tuesday’s game.
AJ Flores went six innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits.
Flores issued two walks and registered six strikeouts.
Jon Hernandez got the final three outs, including one via strikeouts.
Flores and Hernandez combined to throw 75 strikes in 115 pitches.
MarkSteven Perez went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jorge Aceves singled and scored.
Vincent Carrillo had two of COHS’ five base hits.
Marcus Reese got the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits over six innings of work.
Reese walked a pair, and he struck out nine NHS batters.
Brian Aceves was charged with one run on one hit over one inning.
Aceves walked one and struck out one Viking.
Adrian Rodriguez had an RBI triple.
Zeke Martinez doubled and scored.
Joey Ramos went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Jayden Chagollan and Noah Martinez walked and scored one run apiece.
Michael Alonso went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Fernando Casas scored once for the Vikings.
