Baseball:
Covina was able to catch West Covina in second place after Tuesday’s 5-2 Valle Vista League victory at WCHS.
The Colts trailed 2-0, and they rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth and they got three more in the seventh inning.
Caesar Guzman went all seven for Covina to earn the win.
Guzman allowed two runs on five hits.
He issued two walks and registered six strikeouts.
Griffey Moncada went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and scored one run.
DiMaggio Beas singled in a run.
Marcus Mayweather doubled, and Max Murillo singled for the Bulldogs.
Austin Nguyen scored one run.
Michael Gutierrez went four innings, and he was charged with two runs (one earned) on six hits.
Gutierrez walked one and fanned four.
Joaquin Diaz was saddled with the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits over three innings.
Diaz walked a pair and struck out one CHS batter.
With the game tied at 2-2, Lucas Thorpe hit a three-run HR.
Declan Bowers singled three times and scored twice.
Donovan Johnson went 3-for-3 with two runs.
Joseph Garcia’s RBI single in the top of the fifth tied the game at 2-2.
Ryan Silva and Matt Arriaga had one hit apiece for the Colts.
