Baseball:
Glendora sure got some great pitching this week.
On Tuesday, Aaron Jacobsen tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out nine in the Tartans’ 10-0 victory over Silverado.
Fast forward two days, and it was Santiago Garza’s time to shine.
The Glendora sophomore threw a two-hit shutout of his own in GHS’ 1-0 victory over their visitors from Flintridge Prep.
Garza had a perfect game through 6 1/3 innings.
He didn’t issue a walk and registered eight strikeouts.
Garza needed 68 pitches to finish what he started and 53 were strikes.
Will Grable and Calvin Chen had one single apiece to account for the Wolves offense.
Grable got the loss in spite of going five innings and allowing just one run on one hit.
He walked two and fanned nine Glendora batters.
Mason Danison walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning.
He stole second and went to third on a wild pitch.
Gregory Papik drove in Danison with what turned out to be the game-winning run on a sac fly.
Kai Zeits doubled, and Brayden Johnson singled for the Tartans.
Up next: The Tartans travel to Bonita on Tuesday at 3:30 for the first of a Palomares League three-game set with the Bearcats.
Quotable:
Glendora coach, Jerry Lewallen: “What an incredible performance by Santi today. As a fan of the game, it was pretty special watching both of those guys (Garza & Flintridge Prep’s Will Grable) pitch their hearts out. I thought Santi pitched with great rhythm today. He was a strike throwing machine with great movement on his pitches.”
