Maranatha won its ninth consecutive game on Thursday.

More importantly, though, they improved to 5-0 in Olympic League play after a 3-1 victory at Whittier Christian.

Matthew Vazquez went the distance, allowing an unearned run on two hits to earn the win.

Vazquez didn’t issue a walk and registered 10 strikeouts.

Vazquez needed 79 pitches to finish what he started, and 61 were strikes.

Zion Park singled and scored.

Alex Valencia had the Heralds’ other base hit.

Valencia got the loss, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings of work.

Valencia walked two and fanned seven MHS batters.

Lukus Perez doubled and scored.

Trevor Rivas had a pair of singles.

Dylan Garcia doubled, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Gabe Barragan had an RBI single.

Will Suslow singled and scored.

Doug Zuniga singled in a run.

Josh Proctor walked and singled.
