Rio Hondo Prep won its sixth consecutive game on Saturday.

But they had to work overtime to get the result they wanted.

The Kares scored nine runs in the top of the eighth to defeat Army-Navy, 13-6, in Carlsbad.

The Warriors scored once in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Nolan Mandel went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.

Mandell didn’t issue a walk and registered five strikeouts.

The Kares would get to Jacob Hester for eight runs (six earned) on five hits over 2 1/3 innings.

Hester walked two and fanned a pair of RHP batters.

Noah Penunuri, this site’s two-time reigning football player of the year walked, tripled and scored a pair of runs.

Ivan Tkach went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, including one via sac fly.

Nate Curtis singled and scored three times from the leadoff spot.

Brayden Vinton went 1-for-4 with a walk, single and one RBI.

Diego Householder singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Rocco Tardino and Elias Har walked and scored one run apiece.

Elijah Gavia singled once in the win.

Landon Scott, Yanick Diaz and Calogero Chico scored one run apiece.

Nathan Harwood had another solid outing.

The freshman went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Harwood walked one and fanned three Army-Navy batters.

Aaron Sanchez was credited with the win after two innings in relief.

Sanchez surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits, walked one and struck out one Warrior.

Ryke Broxson went 3-for-4 with a walk, run and two RBIs.

Mario Riquer drew a walk, scored and had one RBI.

Kai Huff singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Jacob Hester singled and scored.

Ashton Little went 2-for-5, and Mandel drove in one run in the loss.
