La Salle made history on Tuesday evening.

The Lancers defeated visiting Bishop Montgomery for the first time since 2012.

Those same Knights have two CIF-SS semifinal round playoff victories over La Salle as well.

And while the Lancers did secure a three-game sweep, it was as competitive as three sets could go.

La Salle won by scores of 27-25, 25-23 and 27-25.

Josh Cruz, the Lancers’ setter had 27 assists.

Corey Lai contributed 10 kills.

Sam Riechmann provided nine kills and a pair of blocks.

Luis Zhuabg added five kills and an ace.

Cooper Dammann finished with 22 digs.

Up next: The Lancers travel to Bishop Amat on Thursday at 5.

Quotable:

La Salle coach, Tiare Tuitama: “Our team did something special tonight that I know our volleyball alumni would be very proud of. Bishop Montgomery has and is historically a very good volleyball school. Yesterday at practice, the seniors talked about tonight’s game and how they have lost the last three years. They spoke about what it would be like just to compete with them. Our practice was orchestrated around what we knew about their team. We did a good job at executing, exposing their weaknesses and capitalizing on our strengths.”

Bishop Montgomery (8-9, 2-1)
Paraclete (9-15, 1-1)
