College Baseball:
Chaffey College picked up its most significant win of the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers claimed a 6-5 victory at Cerritos.
In the most recent CCCAA poll (March 11), the Falcons were ranked second in the state and No. 1 in Southern California.
Chaffey also handed Derek Valdez (8-1) his first loss of the season.
Valdez was charged with five unearned runs on eight hits over seven innings.
Valdez issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
The Panthers got one more off Mateo Heredia on one hit and a walk.
Chaffey led 5-0 in the top of the third inning, and they got what turned out to be a huge insurance run in the eighth.
Ryder Young went 2-for-5 and scored.
Jaden St. Cyr drove in two runs on a pair of sac flies in the second and eighth innings.
Jordan Daniels went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI single in the second inning.
Eric Valdivia singled and doubled.
Derek Almeda walked, singled and scored two runs.
Dominick Torrez and Joe Gilkeson scored one run apiece.
AJ Hurtado singled twice and scored.
Michael Moses went 4 2/3 inning and he allowed just one run on four hits.
Moses issued a pair of walks and registered three strikeouts.
Seth Wrightstone was charged with four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Wrightstone walked three and struck out a trio of Cerritos batters.
Joe O’Regan got the save after getting the final two outs, including one via strikeout.
Isaiah Rios went 2-for-5 with a double, run, and his two-run single in the eighth pulled the Falcons to within 6-5 of the Panthers.
Wyatt Ormonde singled, scored and had an RBI double.
Daniel Cuadras went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Evan Saito drew a pair of walks, singled and scored two runs.
Dylan Immel went 2-for-4 with a walk.
Up next: The Panthers travel to Cerro Coso on Tuesday at 2:30 in an IEAC contest.
